I joined Toastmasters in 2007 to meet new people in the country that I was living in at the time, Belgium, where I did not know many people. It wasn’t until a year or two later that I realized the benefits I was gaining. My confidence grew in public speaking, leading a team of people towards a common goal, more control over my nervousness, and coming out of my shell. Those years in Belgium became the highlight of my stay, all because of Toastmasters. There is so much joy in helping others discover their strengths and overcoming what they perceive as their weaknesses.
Toastmasters clubs have well-structured meetings; programs are self-paced, and members receive helpful and constructive feedback. In addition, members have opportunities to lead; there are excellent networking benefits; there is opportunity for career growth; and it offers a path to self-discovery and personal fulfillment.
Joining Toastmasters is one of those things that is a MUST in any career and your personal development. Public speaking and leading a team can be daunting tasks. The longer you try to ignore it (or fear it), the worst it becomes. Communication and leadership are like muscles; the more you do it, the stronger you become and the better you can be. Let Toastmasters help you develop those muscles by joining a club near you!
