Wow. How time flies. We are in the 5th month of the Toastmasters year. We have accomplished so much, yet there is a lot more to do this year. We would like to be at least distinguished this year. We can do it if we all work together. The theme for this year is Together We are Stronger.
If we work in unity and with the District Leaders, we can do great things. Strive to be distinguished this year. I encourage all seven officers to be trained at the Toastmasters Leadership Institute (WLI). That is an easy DCP Point to get your officers trained. If all officers are trained, you will get a ribbon for your club banner.
I am challenging all members to get a Triple Crown. A Triple Crown is awarded to an individual who earns three educational awards in a program year. Invite a potential member to visit your club. This is our last year as District 66, so let us all work together and finish the year stronger.

Crossing the Finish Line—Together We Are Stronger District 66 is on the move! As we stride confidently toward the finish line of this program year, our sights are set on one shared vision—becoming a Distinguished District. The energy across our clubs is contagious, and our collective momentum is unstoppable.
These are transformational times for District 66 as we prepare to align with District 29 to form the new District 218. This is more than a transition—it’s a moment to go from good to great. Together, we’re building the foundation for a district that will shine even brighter in the years ahead.
Our Winter Leadership Institute (WLI) on December 6th is a golden opportunity to accelerate our success. We’re honored to welcome Verity Price, the first African and only the sixth woman ever crowned the World Champion of Public Speaking. Her inspiring message will remind us that every challenge can become a triumph when we lead with purpose and courage.
WLI is also the moment for every club to cross their finish line—to complete officer training, celebrate growth, and strengthen teamwork. During the first round, 86% of clubs achieved or exceeded their training goal. Let’s aim higher and reach 100% this round! Training empowers leaders, and empowered leaders build strong, successful clubs.
We’re already seeing excellence in motion—91% of clubs submitted their Club Success Plan. That commitment puts us within reach of distinction. To become a Distinguished District, we need 34 clubs to achieve Distinguished or higher status. Every level completed, every member mentored, and every meeting held with excellence brings us closer.
The newly refreshed Pathways learning experience offers tools to help every member grow faster, lead better, and achieve more. With simplified navigation, easier access to projects, and inspiring requirements and content, Pathways is your personal and professional growth partner—one step at a time.
Let’s finish strong, united, and purposeful. Every speech, every goal, every act of encouragement adds up to a legacy of leadership and excellence.
Together, we are not just reaching the finish line—we are redefining what it means to be Distinguished.
Together We Are Stronger. Together We Are District 66.
With heart, purpose, and vision, Dr. Marilynn Vaughan, DL5, TC4 Program Quality Director 2025-2026 pqdirector@tmdistrict66.org “Let’s grow together—on purpose.”

Word of the Day: Gratitude
Gratitude – Noun
The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.
“she expressed her gratitude to the committee for their support”
Speakers Corner
Taking Advantage of the Unique Opportunity
We Toastmasters are lucky to have the club meetings to hone our craft. Or craft? It can be used every day. Baseball players have practice that is organized and we Toastmasters do too because we have our different positions to play in the roles of Speaker, Table Topics Master, Evaluator, or Toastmaster. We play the game of Toastmasters while we improve our skills.
How quickly would we improve our public communication skills if we had to wait for a business meeting to lead the session or an invitation to train a group? Would the participants nurture our flaws to strengths?
Unlike baseball, Toastmaster members don’t have to arrange a game with another team to use our communication skills. We can speak effectively at work, home, while volunteering, and with friends. We don’t have to wait for the next Toastmasters meeting because our skills become our own for use wherever we go.
Don’t hesitate to give speeches. Even if a speech is a little rough or you aren’t happy with your performance, give another and another. The Toastmasters Club is your team. If you strike out, we want you to bat again so you’re a big hit wherever you go.

They were all asked: How would you describe the culture of your club? What do you do outside of Toastmasters? How has being a TM affected your personal or professional life? What advice would you give to a new member as they begin their membership?

Succinctly Said (until retirement from Philip Morris, USA) Midtown Toastmasters Advanced Leadership Club
Toastmaster for 18 years
Midtown Toastmasters is a vibrant club that welcomes both new and seasoned members. Now celebrating 65 years of excellence, our club is dedicated to helping members achieve their personal and professional speaking goals. Known as the Club of Champions, Midtown has produced two competitors who reached the World Championship of Public Speaking—a testament to our culture of excellence and support.
As co-sponsor of the Advanced Leadership Club, I’ve witnessed it grow from a dual-member-only club into a thriving environment open to all Toastmasters who are committed to completing at least one Pathways level during their first year. Guided by our motto, “Leaders Helping Leaders”, we emphasize advanced meeting experiences and detailed evaluations that challenge and inspire growth.
Outside of Toastmasters, I am actively involved in Winfree Church, where I lead an adult Sunday School class each week. I also enjoy participating in several women’s social meetup groups—and my favorite pastime of all is spending time with my grandson.
Before joining Toastmasters 18 years ago, I was shy and lacked self-confidence. I often hesitated to share my ideas at work, even when I had valuable contributions. Toastmasters transformed me. Through speeches, leadership roles, and team collaboration—especially on the District Executive Committee and club officer teams—I have developed the confidence to lead, speak, and take on challenges with enthusiasm. Toastmasters has truly been one of the most transformative experiences of my life, shaping me into the leader and communicator I am today.
To new members, my greatest advice is simple: jump in right away. Complete your Ice Breaker project as soon as you can. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes—but once you take that first step, you’ll begin to grow in ways you never imagined. Step outside your comfort zone, and you’ll discover a more confident, empowered version of yourself—living life on your own terms.
